Terms for Artists

Thank you for sharing your work with us. We’re excited to get to know you better. The following terms apply to all artists who register / submit their work to the ArtSloth community, as well as those who are selected for features and interviews. Whenever we feature or promote your art on the ArtSloth platform, your name will always be credited clearly, so readers can easily discover more of your practice.

A solid application goes beyond just sending images. Your artist statement, bio, and supporting details help us understand your practice and vision. To help you prepare, we’ve written an article with step-by-step advice on putting together a thoughtful submission. Check it out here before you apply if you would like to go the extra mile!

For the Artist

As a small, independent project fuelled entirely by community submissions, we need a little legal armour to protect the archive and keep this magazine running.

In plain English, the text below just means: You retain 100% ownership of your art, but you are giving ArtSloth permission to feature it across the Artsloth ecosystem.

These terms may be revised occasionally, so please check back periodically to ensure you have the most current version.

1. Consent & Publication Rights

By submitting to ArtSloth, you grant us the following:

  • Publication License: A non-exclusive, royalty-free, and indefinite license to publish your name, biography, interview answers, and submitted artworks across the entire ArtSloth platform. This covers our website, social media channels, and all current and future ArtSloth publications (Digital Magazines, Physical Print Editions, and Art Books)

  • Image Sourcing: Artsloth may source supplementary images of your artwork directly from your provided public Instagram account or website if needed to complete your editorial spread.

  • No Resale: ArtSloth will never resell your original artwork files or misrepresent the views shared in your interview.

2. Copyright, Crediting & Your Rights

  • Total Ownership: You retain 100% full copyright and ownership over your artworks.

  • Non-Exclusive: Publishing with ArtSloth does not prevent you from submitting your work to other platforms, galleries, or magazines. We want you to share your work everywhere.

  • Guaranteed Crediting: You will always be tagged, credited, and linked (via your submitted social handle, website, or email) wherever your work appears on the ArtSloth platform.

3. Editorial Guidelines & The Curation Process

  • Text & Clarity: We want you to sound your best. Minor grammatical edits may be made to your text (bio, statement, interview) for clarity and readability.

  • Visual Integrity: Artwork images may be cropped or resized to fit the specific digital or physical magazine layout, but your work will never be altered in content, color, or meaning.

  • Scheduling: We build our volumes around specific themes. Certain features or interviews may be scheduled for future issues if they are a better fit for your portfolio. We’ll keep you updated.

  • The Right of Refusal: ArtSloth reserves the right to reject any submission that fails to meet our high-resolution quality standards, or to refuse a feature at our own editorial discretion.

  • Zero Tolerance: We are building a supportive community. Any responses or artworks that are discriminatory, offensive, or harmful will be immediately binned and will not be published.

4. Artist Responsibilities & Indemnity

  • Originality: By submitting, you legally confirm that all artworks are your original creations and that you hold the full, unencumbered rights to publish them. You agree not to submit works that infringe on the copyright, trademark, or intellectual property rights of others.

  • Protection of the Archive (Indemnification): We trust our community, but as an independent publisher, we have to protect the archive. By submitting, you agree to indemnify and hold ArtSloth harmless against any claims, damages, liabilities, or legal costs that arise if your submitted work infringes on someone else's copyright. In plain terms: if you submit stolen work and we get penalized for publishing it, you are responsible for the legal fallout, not ArtSloth.

5. Corrections & Withdrawal

  • Corrections: If you spot an error in your feature (e.g., name spelling, contact details), email us immediately. We will make corrections in the digital magazine and online platforms where possible.

  • Withdrawal: You may withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us. We will do our best to remove your works from our website and social media. Please note: Works already published in finalized past digital issues or physical print runs cannot be retroactively withdrawn.

6. Data & Communication

  • Your contact details will only be used for ArtSloth-related communication (features, open calls, magazine updates). We will never sell your data. You may unsubscribe from non-essential updates at any time.

  • For all concerns, corrections, or to just say hello, please contact the studio at: support@artsloth.in

FAQ

Q:  Will my work be used without my consent?

No. You reserve all rights to the works you submit to the ArtSloth platform. Wherever your work appears on the artsloth platform, your name will be mentioned. Artsloth will never resell your art or misrepresent your views.

Q:  Can I send submitted artworks to other platforms, magazines or galleries?
Absolutely. Your work is your own. The works we select and publish are not exclusive to the ArtSloth platform.

Q:  Will my work be published in multiple magazines or artbooks?

Your work may be used in future issues of the magazine or Artbooks. If this does happen, you will be notified via email before the release. Wherever your work appears, your name and contact details (Either your submitted social media handle, email address or a link to your website) will be mentioned alongside it for easy access to your body of work.

Q:  Can I withdraw consent?
Absolutely. If you ever want us to stop sharing your work, just send us an email. We will happily pull your images and name from our website gallery and our social media feeds.

However, please note: To protect the integrity of the ArtSloth archive, any work that has already been published in a finalized magazine issue (whether digital or physical print) cannot be retroactively removed, re-edited, or withdrawn. We will simply ensure your work is not included in any future volumes!

Q:  I've spotted an error in my feature. What can I do?

Please email us and let us know immediately so we can make the edit before the magazine is printed. The edits will reflect on the digital magazine as soon as we are informed. Please note that only urgent changes will be made, i.e., Spelling errors in your name or contact details.
